Folsom Lake College tennis teams compete with mixed results

The Folsom Lake College men’s and women’s tennis teams competed over the weekend and came away with mixed results. The men faced Cosumnes River College on Friday afternoon and lost a close contest 5-4. The Falcons were led by No. 1 singles player Nick Lord and No. 5 Mark Quimbo, as both won their singles and doubles matches. Lord (sophomore, Ponderosa HS) won in singles 6-1, 6-3, and then combined with Nick Bacchini (sophomore, Vista del Lago HS) to win doubles 8-3. Quimbo (freshman, Cordova HS) won 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in singles and paired with Kurt Marpuri (freshman, Cordova HS) to win 9-7 in doubles. The women’s team travelled to Santa Clara to compete in the Mission College Tournament on Friday and Saturday. No. 4 singles player Rozy Saini (sophomore, Vista del Lago) won her first-round match 6-1, 6-2, then lost in the second round 6-1, 6-2. The No. 2 doubles team of Saini and Maricela Medina (sophomore, Cordova) won their first-round match 6-1, 6-0, then lost in round two 6-1, 6-0. This week the men will host Reedley College in a non-conference match at 1 p.m. today at Broadstone Racquet Club then play in the Modesto Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The women have postponed tomorrow’s scheduled non-conference match with Cosumnes River until Friday in hopes of having more healthy players available. Finally, the men’s golf team plays at Spring Creek Golf Club today in a non-conference match.
