The Folsom Lake College men's golf team placed second in the Big 8 Conference Tournament No. 4 on Thursday in Rancho Murieta. The Falcons only trailed Santa Rosa, shooting a 382 to Santa Rosa's 371, while finishing in front of American River College, 393. Cole Zarecky shot a school-record 72 to lead the way. Drew Roberts followed with a 75, followed by 78s by Steve Mesich and James Millward. Luke Ivazian finished in 79 strokes, while Tom Crowther came in with an 81. Santa Rosa leads the conference standings with 57 points, one in front of American River and nine-points ahead of Folsom Lake College. Tennis teams earn split with Shasta The men's and women's tennis teams took on Shasta College in Redding on Friday and came away with a win and a loss. The men lost a very close 5-4 decision to the Knights with three of the matches decided in the third set (two by tie-breaker). The women dominated Shasta with a 9-0 win, all in straight sets. The men's wins came from No. 1 single Nik Tummala (6-1, 6-2) and No. 5 single Gary Peiffer (6-1, 6-2), No. 1 doubles team of Tummala and Nick Lord (6-1, 6-4), and No. 3 doubles team Gary Peiffer and Perry Torres (6-1, 6-2). The Falcon men’s record now stands at 3-5 overall, 2-4 in Big 8 Conference play. The Falcon women never lost more than three games in any set on their way to their third Big 8 Conference victory. Lily Wong returned from a back injury to lead the Falcons with a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles and paired with Jordyn Germoles for a 6-2, 6-2 win in doubles. The women’s team now has a 3-4 record overall, 3-2 in the Big 8. Upcoming: The Falcons tennis teams will host Sierra College Tuesday at Broadstone Racquet Club at 1 p.m., then travel to Pleasant Hill on Friday to take on Diablo Valley College.
