The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team responded to a must-win situation, according to coach Barry Zarecky, yesterday to win the Big 8 Conference Tournament No. 7 at Oakmont Golf Club in Santa Rosa.
Under terrible conditions that saw more than an inch of rain fall, the Falcons were able to defeat Big 8 leader Santa Rosa by a mere two strokes. The win, which happened to be on Santa Rosa’s home course, cut two points off Santa Rosa’s lead in the standings, which now sits at three points with five tournaments remaining.
“The boys showed a lot of character to play on Santa Rosa’s home course, in those conditions, and get the win,” remarked coach Zarecky. “It should help restore some confidence that was lost at Whitney Oaks.”
The Falcons were once again paced by Big 8 scoring leader Joel Slak, who earned low-medalist honors with his one-under-par 71. Tom Crowther followed close behind with a 73.
