Folsom Lake College golfers retake Big 8 Conference leadBy: Staff Report
The up-and-down season of the Folsom Lake College men’s golf team continued Thursday as the Falcons took over first place in the Big 8 Conference with a three-stroke victory at Spring Creek Country Club in Ripon.
The win caused the fifth lead change of the season and the third in just one week. Folsom Lake trailed Santa Rosa by one point prior to yesterday’s tournament, but left with a two-point lead after Modesto tied Santa Rosa for second in the tournament.
Tom Crowther’s round of 71 led the Falcons, while Brad Peil finished with a 72, but one incident almost cost coach Barry Zarecky an ulcer en route to the victory.
“One of our players did not double check his scorecard before signing it and was disqualified for signing an incorrect card.”
That meant the team would have to rely on No. 6 player, Jordan Sato-Sterni, to score 85 or better in order to secure the victory. When Jordan came in with an 83, it allowed Zarecky to exhale.
“I aged 10 years waiting for that score to come in,” Zarecky said.
