Folsom Lake College golf team places second, tennis team loses to Cosumnes River

The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team, fresh off last week’s big win at the Stanford Invitational, was handed a bit of humility yesterday in a non-conference match at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa.

The Falcons took second among the four teams, losing to winner Sierra by four strokes (393-397). Only two Folsom Lake golfers shot in the 70’s (Joel Slak – 75 and Dylan Neal – 77), a profound turnaround from last week when five players managed to do so.  Coach Barry Zarecky was very disappointed with his team’s mental approach as well as their play.

“I don’t think they took this match seriously, perhaps because it was a “practice” match (non-league). We will be having a meeting today to discuss their attitude. They need to come to play every match.”

Meanwhile, the Folsom Lake men’s tennis team hosted sister college Cosumnes River in a non-league match at Rollingwood Racquet Club. Although the Falcons lost 9-0, there were several encouraging signs from this match. Number 5 singles player Jorge Espiritu and No. 6 Preston FaGalde both won six games each in their two-set matches. The pair also combined to play a close doubles match, eventually losing 8-5.
