Folsom Lacrosse Association opened its 2011 season with youth games at home and a Play Day event in San Francisco for the program’s new addition, a high school level girls’ team. The FLA 15-and-under games were split with a victory for the 15U Red Hawks beating the Fair Oaks Broncos 6-4 but a 9-3 loss for the 15U White Hawks against Fair Oaks. Scoring was a team effort with several players scoring a goal for each of the Folsom teams. Among the scorers were Cameron Clark, Christian Guitron, Chase Browing and Hunter Jorgensen. Taylor Koontz had eight saves in goal and Blake Sorensen had two. The Folsom 13U Falcons suffered two losses, dropping a 9-4 decision to Fair Oaks and an 8-2 game to El Dorado Hills. Standouts for the day included Eric Nelson with two goals and an assist and Chris Webber with one goal and six saves as goalie. High scorer for the day was Matt Holden with three and an impressive 28 saves as goalie. The girls’ high school team, the Ravens, had a great showing in San Francisco with several newcomers to the sport, as they won three of four match-ups to Bay Area teams. Natalie Delgado had a good showing with offensive help from Mary Meyer, Lindsey Michalek and Megan Blumm. Nicole Terry did well at goalie. Coach Tim Meyer was pleased with the team’s first outing but added that the team could still use more depth and that the team is still accepting players for the spring season. The high school boys’ varsity team will see its first game of the season on Saturday against Woodcreek in Roseville. Folsom also introduces a new 11U Cardinal team which will make its debut as well on Saturday at home with a doubleheader against Granite Bay and Napa. The other age groups will be in force as well.
