Folsom High track team opens season at Clarke Massey Relays

The Folsom High track and field team opened their season Saturday at the Clarke Massey relays at Cordova High. Tim Scott and Jake Pettinghill had the best day for the varsity boys, as they placed second in the pole vault relay with a height of 17 feet, 6 inches, Scott clearing the bar at 9 feet and Pettinghill at 8’6”. Both heights were personal-best marks. Aaron Burkhead, Ben Hodson, Vinnie Morin and David Hanson combined to place fifth in the 3,200-meter relay, finishing in 8:49.8. Jake Goodwin, Ryley Hoffman, Cristiano Bobiles and Blake Shaw placed 12th in the 3,200-meter relay in 9:16, while Hoffman, Hanson, Burkhead and Goodwin ran 11:53 to place eighth in the distance medley relay. Dan McGreevy also had a personal-best leap in the long jump of 18 feet, 4 inches. For the varsity girls, Vivian Lam won the 3,200-meter run with a personal-best time of 11:57, leading from start to finish. A pair of relay teams earned fourth-place finishes for the varsity girls. Natalie Clement (4’6”) and Katie Bock (4’0”) in the high jump relay and Katie Bock (6’6”) and Elizabeth Ruffino (5’0”) in the pole vault. Muna Alhamad, Jen Rees, Kaeti Park and Bock ran ninth in the distance medley relay in 14:51.9, destroying Folsom High’s freshman-sophomore school record by more than a minute. Alhamad, Bock, Rees and Ashley Anderson also placed ninth in the 3,200 relay in 11:39.9. At the freshman-sophomore level, Pete Merrill (8’0”) and Jim Broff (6’6”) placed second in the pole vault relay, while Jake Kleiber finished third in the high jump at 5’2”. Garrick Johnson finished sixth in the long jump at 17’7”. Running his first 3,200 meters, John Kretschman placed fourth in 11:35, while Jordan Denny was 13th in 12:32.
