Folsom High riders show toughness at Monterey race

Folsom High’s mountain bike team had a difficult day Sunday at a race in Monterey, battling through several unfortunate events, yet still had good performances.

Coach Stephen Provan said the team did well, but experience several issues including: Taylor Caruso did not compete because of a knee injury, Owen Clinton lost a rear brake caliper and couldn’t finish the race, Paul Kozel battle a knee injury and placed 30th in the JV boys race, Alex Blake got sick during the race, yet still finished 13th in the JV boys’ race, while Curtis Patenaude finished 37th in the boys race despite being stung twice by a bees.

“As you can see, we have a team of kids with huge hearts that don't know the word quit,” Provan said.

Following are Folsom High’s results:

Girls: Tessa Caruso (freshman), 11th, (Now 8th overall in Freshman Girls, Division 1), Ali Silva (JV) 26th.

Boys: Ryan Kohne (freshman) - 34th, Anthony Lawson (freshman) - 41st, Andrew Marino (sophomore) - 18th, Curtis Patenaude (sophomore) - 37th, Ivor Clinton (JV) - 7th, Alex Blake (JV) - 13th (Now ranked 10th overall in JV Boys, Division 1), Alex Provan (JV) - 24th, Matt Cain (JV) - 26th, Paul Kozel (JV) - 30th, Carson Ropp (JV) - 35th, Nick Palmer (JV) - 36th and Paul Canzoneri (JV) - 49th.
