On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Folsom High School cross country team volunteered at the 2011 Blind and Low Vision Olympics in Sacramento, CA (Sac State Hornet Stadium Practice Field). The event was hosted by the Sacramento Society for the Blind. ( The Blind Olympics are for youth aged 18 and under who are blind or have low vision. This year’s events included: 50 yard dash, 100 yard dash, discus throw, shot put, javelin throw and broad jump. Modifications for each event addressed low vision and blindness. Folsom High's Michael Kinoshita, who is visually impaired, was the keynote speaker and honorary director for the games. The Folsom High athletes who assisted/guided the competitors included Cristiano Bobiles, Jacob Goodwin, Blake Shaw, Vinnie Morin, Sam Scheuer, Ryley Hoffman, Peter Merrill, Matt Merrill, Mitch Wersky and Austin Bailey. It was evident the Bulldogs had almost as much fun as the competitors.
