Folsom golf team on a roll

Team peaking at right time of year
Folsom High’s golf team has caught fire at the right time of the year. Entering the postseason, which begins Monday at the divisional tournament at Castle Oaks at Ione, the Bulldogs have put together some impressive performances. Following a tie of Jesuit in the third Delta River League Tournament of the season with a season-best score of 371, the Bulldogs defended their championship in the Cal-Hi Tournament by winning in Plumas Pines for the second straight year over the weekend. Now on Monday, the Bulldogs won the fourth and final league tournament, shooting a 387, finishing three strokes in front of Jesuit. The Knoll brothers, Brian and Taylor, again led the team, as Brian finished with an even-par 72 at Cherry Island, while Taylor finished one stroke back with a 73. D.J. Christensen came in with a 78, while Dalton Theis shot an 88. The Bulldogs won the match with a big help from their No. 5 and 6 players, as Zack Bouchard shot a career-best 81, while Alex Morgan finished with an 83. “What a way to go into the playoffs,” Folsom coach Steve Burgess said. “We are extremely excited about divisionals. We believe we can win this tournament and bring home a banner. All we have to do is work hard at maintaining what we are doing right and put some hard work on the weakest part of our game.” For their play throughout the season, the Knoll brothers, along with Christensen, earned a spot on the all-league team. Brian finished second in league, while Christensen placed fifth and Taylor ended up sixth in scoring.
