The Lady Bulldogs swept their way past Sheldon, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-15 to get into the win column for the first time in the Delta River League this season. “I think we got better toward the end of the match. Tonight was an opportunity for me to get a lot of players in that don’t normally get to see the court a lot in our tough league. Our leaders led and it felt good to have everyone else contribute to our win,” said Folsom coach Cinnamon DaSilva. Junior outside hitter Ashley Hallums got Folsom off to a hot start with a kill that preceded four aces along a nine-point run that gave the Lady Bulldogs a 15-6 advantage in the first set. Jaia Lockett and Shannon Rich each contributed four kills in Folsom’s 25-14 game one win. Lockett and the Lady Bulldogs stayed consistent throughout the second game. The junior outside provided four aces of her own during a five-point stretch early on, giving Folsom an 11-5 lead. The Lady Bulldogs’ teamwork and aggressiveness made it difficult for Sheldon to gain any kind of momentum as they took the second game, 25-19. Rich and senior middle Nicole Solak continued to play big up front in the third game. Solak scored on six of Folsom’s game three points, including three from blocks at the net as Folsom completed the sweep with a 25-15 win. “It feels amazing to get this win. I’m happy we did it in three. It just pumps us up that much more,” said Lockett, who finished with eight kills and six aces. “I just tried to think about where I was gonna hit before I hit it; just try to take the set I get and mix up my shots.” Solak led the way with 11 kills, while setter Elise Newton had 24 assists for Folsom (1-1 DRL). “There wasn’t a lot of ‘Wow’ stuff tonight but the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Tonight we were whole,” added DaSilva, who despite losing to St. Francis last week, felt like her team made the Lady Troubadours earn every point. “Hopefully this momentum will keep going when we play on Thursday (against Ponderosa).”
