Three Folsom girls helped the Placer United Soccer Club’s 93 Prestige girls’ under-16 gold team win the National Cup Championship held July 29 in Virginia Beach, Va. The Prestige defeated the New Jersey state champion PDA Tsunami, 4-3, in penalty kicks to win the championships. Folsom residents Katie Sipiora (goalkeeper), forward Dani Zezoff and defender Alicia Segura played on the team. Sipiora made a clutch save to keep the Tsunami from securing a two-goal lead during the penalty-kick session. Sipiora allow no goals in regulation throughout the tournament, while Zezoff led several offensive attacks and Segura was tough on defense. The Prestige, which advanced to the National Cup Finals by earlier winning the regional tournament in Modesto, also defeated the Montclair United SC Thunderbolts and Twin County Crew, both of New Jersey, in claiming the national title. The team is now ranked 11th in the nation.
