The Folsom Force under-12 boys’ soccer team finished their season winning six straight games in three weekends to capture the Association Cup Championship. Thirty-two teams started this journey and two were left as of Jan. 23. In their final match, the Force played a very skilled and physical team from Santa Rosa. The first half finished 0-0 with tough play by Force defenders Brandon Sarrels, Kody Madore, Conner Bishop, Austyn Ciampa and keeper Jackson LaCasse. There were many scoring opportunities by forwards Miguel Medina, Logan Clark and Robbie Burns. The second half started off with a much more urgent response by both teams. Luke Avdalovic was outstanding in the middle organizing and calming the offense, while defending the opponent’s continuous push towards the goal. Shot after shot, hit after hit, the boys fought through an onslaught of tackles and physical abuse. Midfielders Cameron McCoy, Chase Guerrero, Jack Munoz and Trevor Altman kept the ball going forward with great skill as their attackers continued to hound them. Then 10 minutes into the second half, Clark sent a through ball to the feet of midfielder Spencer Hoyle. Hoyle beat two defenders and hit a ball off the crossbar and into the back of the net to give the Force a 1-0 lead. Minutes later Hoyle again drove the ball towards the goal and was fouled just outside the box. He lined up the free kick and hurled it past the human wall and into the back corner. When the final whistle blew, the Force won 2-0 and was crowned 2011 Northern California Champions.
