Folsom excited for rematch with Grant

While Saturday’s Folsom-Grant game lacks the hype of last year’s season-opening game televised nationally on ESPN2, it should be a great game. Grant, of course, is perennially one of the top teams in the Sacramento area and this year’s team should be no different. Shaq Thompson is arguably the top back in the Sacramento area and quarterback Terry Shine led the Pacers to the section championship game last season. On top of their talent, the Pacers will likely bring some extra motivation to the game, as the Bulldogs cruised to a 41-20 win in the section title game last year, avenging Grant’s 49-14 win in the season opener. On top of that, the game is at Grant, which isn’t an easy place to play. Folsom is looking forward to the challenge. “I’m sure Grant feels the same way we do in that they lost of lot of good players and people might not think they’re going to be as good as last year,” Folsom coach Kris Richardson said. “Grant doesn’t rebuild, they just reload and plug in new guys. Shaq Thompson is one of the best players in the area. It should be a great rematch.” Folsom linebacker Alex Wood added, “It will be a great challenge for us. We’ve sort of made a rivalry with them and I’m looking forward to it. Both teams will give everything they’ve got.” Lineman Jordan Alleva is also excited for the game. “We should play better than we did in the opener last year,” Alleva said. “There’s not as much hype and I think we got caught up in last year. It should be a good game.”
