Even with three starters out of the lineup, Folsom High’s varsity wrestling squad dominated Pleasant Grove in the opening Delta River League match on Wednesday, winning 67-6. The Bulldogs dropped only one match on the evening, winning seven matches with bonus points: five by first period pins and two others by technical fall in an impressive performance. “You never know how these matches will go when you have guys out of the lineup, but our guys who filled in did well,” Folsom coach Mike Collier said. “We almost won every match and that’s how you want to start your league season. It gives us something to build on with Oak Ridge coming in here next week.” With Mason Koshiyama, Isaias Diaz and Tevenn Lewis out of the lineup, Kevin Borgh and Kyle Prado stepped up and a few other wrestlers competed in a higher weight class and still came out on top in their matches. Carlos Alvarez (106) and Borgh (120) opened the match with a pair of hard-fought decisions, Alvarez winning 5-1 and Borgh coming away with a high-scoring 14-11 victory. Lorenzo De La Riva (126) worked up an 11-2 lead before pinning his opponent with 11 seconds left in the third period prior to Connor Pollock (132) and Tony Hernandez’s (138) back-to-back technical fall wins, Pollock’s coming in 4:57 (19-3) and Hernandez’s in 4:14 (16-0). At 145 Prado picked up the first of four straight first-period pins for the Bulldogs, Prado’s coming in 1:10. Nick Fiegener (152) put his opponent on his back in 1:02, followed by pins from Ryan Jensen (160) in 1:56 and Devon Nooner (170) in 1:40. Alex Hurlimann (182) defeated his opponent by a 7-4 decision before Trevor Lewis (220) got caught and pinned in the first period for Folsom’s only loss. Heavyweight Jordan Alleva finished the match with a 12-second pin, providing the top highlight of the night for the Bulldogs.
