Missing one of their top-five runners, Folsom High’s varsity boys’ cross country team still pulled off a top-10 finish at the prestigious Stanford Invitational on Saturday. Sam Scheuer led the way for the Bulldogs, placing 11th in 16 minutes, 25 seconds. Jake Goodwin and Vinnie Morin placed 50th and 62nd in 17:14 and 17:22, respectively, as Folsom’s No. 2 and 3 runners. Jon Barrows ran 94th in 17:46 with Blake Shaw the fifth scorer by placing 109th in 17:55. Cristiano Bobiles also ran for the Bulldogs, finishing the race in 18:50. Folsom was running without Mike Kinoshita, who is still a week away from running, as he recovers from a calf injury. “Considering we were missing Mike and that Jon sprained his ankle during the race, I thought we did pretty well,” Folsom coach Steve Kinoshita said. “We were right in the middle of it all. I thought Blake stepped up and ran well in Mike’s absence and his time of 17:55 was great for him. Jon also ran well with a sprained ankle. Vinnie and Jake filled in the gaps and Sam placed 11th after finishing 31st last year so he moved up.” Vivian Lam represented the varsity girls and placed 19th in 19:40. “Vivian had an awesome day,” Kinoshita said. “She finished 19th and was there about halfway through the race and maintained her spot the rest of the way.” Folsom will compete in “The Other Meet” on Saturday at Granite Regional Park. The first race begins at 8:30 a.m.
