What a difference 24 hours makes. A day after crushing Snowline 14-3 in the semifinals of the District 54 TOC, the Folsom American Junior White Sox fell to Ponderosa 10-0 and finished the season with a 22-8 record. The White Sox jumped all over Snowline with three runs in the first and six in the second and the Ponderosa Giants did the same to them, scoring three runs in the first and three in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Folsom never challenged. ?We dug ourselves a hole and weren?t able to come back from it,? White Sox coach Scott McIntosh said. ?Give Ponderosa credit; they?re a good team that played solid defensively and their pitcher threw well.? White Sox starting pitcher Brendan Murphy struggled with his control, walking two batters in the first inning and two in the second before being replaced by Nicholas Maggiano. The Giants scored their first run on an error and added the next two on groundouts. They added three more runs in the second on two walks followed later with two hit RBI hits. Meanwhile, the Sox struggled to get anything going against lefty Nick King, who struck out seven and allowed only three hits. Folsom had two of their three hits in the first inning, singles by Michael Dermenjian and Trent Jas, but were unable to put any runs on the board as Dermenjian was thrown out trying to steal third for the second out of the inning and King induced a groundout to end the inning. The team?s only other hit came in the bottom of the fourth when Severin Anderson hit a two-out single to right field. ?Their pitcher had a good curve ball and did a good job hitting the corners,? Dermenjian said. ?They also played good defense. Their shortstop didn?t miss a ball.? While the loss ended the White Sox season, McIntosh was proud of his team. ?It?s a great group of guys and I enjoyed coaching them,? McIntosh said. ?They came a long way this season and had fun and hopefully I?ll see a lot of them again next year.? Dermenjian added, ?It was very fun to play with this team and given the chance I would play with this team any time.?
