Two restless juveniles ended up in hot water after allegedly igniting a blaze in Folsom last Thursday. The teens, both 12, were allegedly playing with illegal roman candle fireworks on a bike trail Thursday, Aug. 6, when an errant projectile startled them, according to Folsom Police Officer Jason Browning. One of the juveniles dropped the firework, which ignited an area of dry grass 75 yards long by 30 yards wide, according to Browning. Two homeowners and another teen helped police officers keep the flames at bay until fire engines from Folsom and Sacramento Metro Fire departments arrived and extinguished the fire. "Safe and Sane" fireworks are illegal to use after the Fourth of July while illegal fireworks are never appropriate, according to Browning. The two juveniles were issued citations for suspicion of unlawfully burning property. They were released to their parents, according to Browning. The suspects face civil penalties as well as criminal charges. No structures were damaged and no people were injured, according to an official statement issued by the Folsom Police Department.
