In the tradition of the Folsom Turkey Trot, Folsom chiropractor Todd Drybread has come up with another family fun run for local residents. On the Fourth of July the Folsom Firecracker, a 5-kilometer family fun run/walk and a 10-kilometer run will be held on the Lake Natoma Trails. Drybread said it’s a time to celebrate and unite. “My goal is for us to celebrate our Independence Day by recognizing how fortunate we are in this country, while uniting our community by helping raise money and awareness of local needs and uniting our country and world by helping bring awareness of global poverty.” After putting on successful Turkey Trot runs the last two years on Thanksgiving Day, Drybread wanted to have another run. “After the Turkey Trot I saw how successful they were and how much people wanted to help that I wanted to come up with another run,” Drybread said. “I wanted to do something in conjunction with the rodeo, which is in the afternoon and evening so this will give people something to do in the morning.” The Firecracker will begin at 8 a.m. and benefits six local charities, as well as one international charity. When people go to and register for the run, they can choose to help support either Powerhouse Ministries, Folsom Patrons of the Arts, Folsom Cordova Community Partnership, Friends of the Folsom Library, Folsom Area Bicycle Advocates and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project or the One campaign, an advocacy organization aimed at fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
