Fire disrupts light rail in FolsomBy: Laura Newell Telegraph staff writer
Commuters experienced a light rail service disruption between the Sunrise and Historic Folsom stations on Tuesday, Sept. 18. According to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials, a blown transformer near the Light Rail tracks sparked a fire that crossed over a pre-existing dozer line and onto AeroJet land. One helicopter, one dozer and nine engines from Metro Fire, Folsom Fire and AeroJet worked together to contain the fire to approximately 6.25 acres. The fire, blown transformer, and an exposed overhead wire caused Light Rail service to be temporarily shut down, officials said. While no one was injured by the fire, officials said, commuters were forced to use bus services instead of light rail services. Special shuttle buses transported passengers to and from the affected stations during the disruption.
