Falcons update: Women’s, men’s tennis teams win; men’s golf places sixth
The Folsom Lake College women's and men's tennis teams opened up Big 8 Conference play with dominating wins over Shasta College Tuesday at Broadstone Racquet Club. The women shut out the Knights, 9-0, while the men easily won 7-2. Lily Wong led the Falcons with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win in singles and paired with Emily Roberts to win 6-0, 6-1 in doubles. Freshman Christie Lee, playing in the No. 6 singles slot, won her first collegiate tennis match, 6-4, 6-4. On the men's side, Nik Tummala dominated in both No.1 singles and doubles, winning 6-1, 6-1 in singles and combining with Nick Lord to cruise to a 6-1, 6-1 win in doubles. The Folsom Lake College men's golf team opened their conference season at Stockton Country Club, placing sixth with a team score of 400. Despite what coach Barry Zarecky described as, “…our worst round of golf this season,” the Falcons were just two strokes behind fifth-place Modesto and a mere 13 shots back of winner American River College. The Big 8 team title looks to be a season-long battle, as all eight teams finished within 25 strokes. Tom Crowther and Cole Zarecky led the Falcons by shooting 78 and 79, respectively. The golf team plays host to American River College and Butte at Rancho Murieta at noon on Thursday, while the tennis teams travel to Rocklin to play Sierra College on Friday.
