Folsom Lake College’s men’s golf team placed second in the Big 8 Tournament No. 3 held Thursday at Yolo Flyers Golf Club in Woodland. Joel Slak led the Falcons with a school-record round of 70, but it wasn’t enough to catch the BearCubs of Santa Rosa, who shot a 369 to beat the Falcons by 14 strokes. “Our top-four played very well,” commented Coach Barry Zarecky, “but when they (Santa Rosa) throw out a 78, they’re going to be tough to beat.” Following Slak’s round of 70, Cole Zarecky and Luke Ivazian shot 75s, while Kevin Rose finished in 78 strokes. Nick Fowler (85) and Tanner Lichty (88) rounded out the scoring. Zarecky is hoping for improved play from his fifth and sixth golfers in order to compete with Santa Rosa. The Falcons remain in first place in the Big 8 standings, four points ahead of Santa Rosa. Next week looms large with two conference tournaments; Tuesday at Spring Creek in Ripon and Thursday at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento.
