The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team moved into first place in the Big 8 Conference standings by virtue of their second-place finish in Thursday’s tournament at Van Buskirk Golf Course in Stockton.

The Falcon’s team score of 379 was just four strokes behind Modesto, but more importantly, was nine strokes ahead of previous Big 8 leader Santa Rosa. The second-place finish, coupled with Santa Rosa’s fourth-place performance, pushed the Falcons into the Big 8 lead by one point.

Folsom Lake College freshman Jordan Sato-Sterni, despite playing from the number-six position, led the Falcons with a two-over-par 74. Big 8 scoring leader Joel Slak managed to recover from an uncharacteristic series of early bogeys to shoot 76.

“It was nice to make up for some previous mistakes and retake the conference lead,” said coach Barry Zarecky. “We can’t worry about other teams; we just have to take care of our own business. It’s nice to have the lead with four to go, but a lot can happen in four tournaments.”
