Falcon golfers soar to fourth place at Stanford Invitational
By: Staff Report
The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team opened the 2012 season yesterday at the Stanford Invitational with a fourth-place finish among 13 teams. Their team score of 381 was just two strokes behind second place and a full eight strokes better than the team’s score at last year’s Stanford tournament. Luke Ivazian led the Falcons with a 72, followed by Joel Slak’s 73 and Cole Zarecky’s 74. Coach Barry Zarecky was happy with the performance, saying, “I’m pleased with the way these kids played. Riley (Swikhart) really stepped up.” Swikhart finished with a 79, followed by Kevin Rose and Tanner Lichty, who shot 83s. Chabot, the defending state champions, won the tournament with a 373. Santa Rose shot a 379 and placed second, while Reedley was third with a 380, one stroke better than Folsom Lake College. The Falcons travel to Stockton on Thursday for a non-conference match at Swenson Golf Club to take on Delta, Modesto and Santa Rosa.
