The Folsom Lake College men’s golf team continued to show signs that they are team to be reckoned with in 2012, as they shot a team score of 382 on their way to a second-place finish in Thursday’s non-conference tournament at Swenson Golf Club in Stockton. Joel Slak led the team with a 72, as the Falcons finished 14 strokes behind Santa Rosa, the defending Big 8 Conference champions. “We know we’ve got to get better to compete with Santa Rosa, but we’re off to a good start,” said head coach Barry Zarecky. “I’m very pleased with where this team is heading.” Following Slak, Luke Ivazian shot a 72 with Kevin Rose (76), Cole Zarecky (79), Tanner Lichty (80) and Riley Swikhart (86) rounded out the Folsom Lake scorers. Next week the Falcons play two more non-conference matches to help them prepare for the Big 8 Conference opener on Feb. 21. They’ll play at Spring Creek Country Club in Ripon on Tuesday and at Teal Bend in Sacramento on Thursday. In other sports, the men’s tennis team travels to south Sacramento today to take on Cosumnes River at 1 p.m. An injury-depleted women’s tennis team plays in the Mission College Tournament in Santa Clara today and tomorrow.
