PLACERVILLE CA - Nothing says summer quite like riding a Ferris wheel at the county fair while munching on a corn dog and sipping a cool lemonade. The fair has become a Father?s Day tradition for many local families. This year?s El Dorado County Fair, that runs from June 14-17, will have something to please just about everyone. Working off the theme, ?The Grapest Show on Earth,? the fair will feature local wineries, baking contests focusing on grapes and raisins as an ingredient, a circus and daily wine seminars. Jody W. Gray, CEO of the El Dorado County Fair, said along with the traditional carnival rides and games, there will also be cooking demonstrations, live music and special events for children. ?We do have a circus that will be here every day in the kids corral and something new this year is Jordan the Science Wizard,? Gray said. The Wizard will perform three shows Thursday, June 14, and is sure to delight young and old with experiments and ?explosions.? Also new this year is the ?Karaoke Rock Star,? Gray said. Attendees can sing karaoke songs with the back-up of a live band. There will be daily horticulture gardening demonstrations, bonsai demonstrations and wine tasting on June 16. One of the more traditional aspects of a county fair includes the textile exhibits and contests. Howard Lowrie, 60, of Pollock Pines, has been crocheting since the mid-80s and won a blue ribbon for an afghan he crocheted and entered two years ago. This year he is entering a 600-square tablecloth. ?I started crocheting the tablecloth a few weeks before last year?s Fair and finished it about five months later,? Lowrie said. And of course it wouldn?t be a county fair without livestock. Four-H and Future Farmers of America members will have their livestock on display throughout the fair. June 14 is Senior and Kid?s Day where senior citizens may enter the Fair for free until 4 p.m. and also ride the carnival rides for free all day. Kids, 12 and under, are free until 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 15, is Teen Day where teenagers who are 13 to 19 years old can enter the Fair for free until 4 p.m. Learn more at * * * KNOW AND GO El Dorado County Fair When:?June 14?17, Gates open at 11 a.m. Where: 100 Placerville Drive, Placerville, Military in uniform are free Parking: $6 Pre-sale tickets available until June 13 at the Fair office or at
