Vista del Lago’s tennis team dropped its first match of the season on Monday, losing to defending section champion Placer, 7-2, in a non-league match. Vista played well, but only Sandeep Gurram won in singles play, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), while Arielle Frank and Gage Huber picked up a win at mixed doubles, 2-6, 6-4 (10-6) in a super tie-breaker. “Sandeep remained undefeated with a thrilling match,” Vista coach Chris Evers said. “He fought off three match points and was trailing the entire third set. Both Gage and Arielle played well and made some adjustments during the match to win in the super tie-breaker. Sai (Rathish) and Julian (Rodkiewicz) at number one doubles lost a heartbreaker 11-9 in the third-set tiebreaker. I thought they played well and aggressively. Katie (Sarrels) and Danica (Greenall) at number two doubles also lost to close sets, 6-4, 7-5.” Vista plays host to Galt today before traveling to El Dorado on Thursday.
