-A +A
The driver in a Jan. 28 fatal accident is now cooling his heels in the county clink facing felony vehicular manslaughter charges. On the night of the accident, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Folsom Boulevard west of Blue Ravine Road, where they found 52-year-old James Beckwith, of Rancho Cordova, sitting in the center median. According to witnesses, Beckwith was spotted driving recklessly in his Pontiac GTO before the car spun out, sideswiped a tree in the center divide and rolled over at least twice. The severely damaged vehicle came to rest on its wheels against a mature oak tree. Officers discovered Kimbery Bryant, 45, deceased in the passenger side seat of the vehicle. Beckwith was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. A warrant was issued for Beckwith’s arrest on March 7 by the Sacramento Superior Court based on the investigation by the Folsom Police Department’s Major Accident Response Team. Bryant was a school teacher in El Dorado County. Officers from that team arrested James Beckwith on March 8 at a family member’s home in Placer County on a $15,000 felony warrant for vehicular manslaughter. ~ Staff report
