The April 14-15 District 3 Rodeo will also include the pageant for the 2012-13 queen to be held on Friday, April 13. All events will take place at the Lincoln Rodeo Grounds just off Sterling Parkway. This is also the final rodeo of the season for the junior varsity. Running for queen again this year is Tay (Taylor) Creeks who will be a senior next year. Also making a bid for the crown is Taylor Myers. The pageant is open to the public. The contestants will be judged on horsemanship, modeling, and speech. They will be given a test, an interview, and impromptu questions. Creeks said to be queen requires knowing all the rules inside and out and it means representing District 3 wherever the queen goes. Creeks also said she hopes for a big crowd to come out and see just what it takes to be rodeo queen for a year. Four District 3 cowboys were tops in their events at the California High School Rodeo Association Challenge of Champions held March 23-25 in Plymouth. District 3 also placed second in the nine-district event. Jaed Hare was first in steer wrestling and averaged only 10.1 seconds to get his animal on the ground. The Thundering Three’s Clayton Brum scored 74 to take the top prize in bull riding. And Jordan Sparrowk and Seth Bowling averaged just 15.02 seconds in the team roping for gold in that event. Following are District 3 representatives who finished in the top 10: Steer Wrestling – Luke Pfister 6th, Riley Jackson 7th and Jesse Clark 9th. Tie Down Roping – Clayton Brum 5th.
