RED BLUFF _ Some of the California High School Rodeo Association District 3 cowboys and cowgirls came up with big points at the inter-district rodeo held last month with District 1.

For the girls, Jennifer Oakham moved up a few notches in barrel racing with 29 points. Cheyanne Carpenter and Cierra McClure each had 22.

In goat tying, Katie Rice tightened her noose on first place with a 29 while Macey Cox continued to give chase with a 23 along with Rachael Bertram.

Alex Carpenter rode the poles for 29 points to stay in first place while Rachael Goforth picked up 22 and Chelsea Stewart garnered 21.

Alexis Lincoln roped in 29 big points in breakaway but Rice added 26 to hold the top spot. Cheyanne Carpenter added 26 to her totals and trails Rice by just nine.

Nobody cuts like Cheyanne Carpenter as she nearly maxed with 29.5 points in cutting. Janelle Oakham scored her second-straight 26 and Hannah Briggs remained in second with 22 points.

For the boys, Cody Buchanon grappled 20 hard-earned points in steer wrestling, Jesse Clark 19 and Mason Mardesich 17. Luke Pfister still holds a big lead in this event; he scored 15.

Clayton Brum crept up big time on first place with a 30 in tie-down roping. Wyatt Adams had a 25 and Wyatt Bankus a 23. Mardesich put a knot around 14 to stay in front by one point over Brum.

Colby Demo was the only rider to pick up points in bull riding. Although Brum was blanked, he still leads Robert Braiser by 44 who also came up with naught. Demo’s 20 points put him just one behind the second-place Braiser.

Nobody’s going to catch Brum in saddle bronc or Clayton Biglow in bareback; the reason – there isn’t anyone else riding in those events. By the way, they each picked up 30 points in Red Bluff.

Biglow and Brum are cutting it close in boys cutting. Brum turned in a 28 to Biglow’s 18 and now the two are separated by only half a point. Colton Applegarth scored 27 to remain in third.

In the team events, header Seth Adams and heeler Wyatt Adams topped everyone with 30 points. Headers Mardesich and Cheyanne Carpenter joined their respective heeler partners for 22s.

The District 3 Rodeo Queen Pageant will be held 4:30 p.m. April 12. The candidates are Lincoln High’s Corinne Linke (sophomore), Marysville High’s Bailey Daniel (junior) and Woodland’s Breann Justice (eighth grade, Lee Middle School).

The winner will be announced April 14.

The next District 3 Rodeo at the Lincoln Arena is April 13 and 14.
