The fourth annual Folsom Cyclebration Bike Festival is pedaling to town Sept. 17-18 for a weekend of celebrating the city’s trails, lakes and history. There will be 13 events, ranging from time trials to a scavenger hunt. The pre-event kick off will take place from 3-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at the Fam Jam at Cummings Family Park in Folsom. Participants can race through the all-rider friendly course, eat some barbecue and get autographs of the pros. The festival begins Saturday and will feature music, food, vendors, and bike demos. Most of the cycling events begin and end at the festival located at Folsom City Park. The event is open to people of all ages, regardless of whether you ride or not, according to Erin Gorrell, accounting and inventory manager of Bike Folsom. “It’s a very family friendly event. Even if you’re not racing there are plenty of other fun activities and events that you can participate in,” said Gorrell. The city is seeking volunteers for the event and welcomes people from all parts of the community. “The success of our event is largely due to the enthusiasm and support of our many volunteers. As a volunteer, you’ll feel great knowing that you’re helping to promote fitness in the community, and best of all, you’ll have fun in the process,” said Lynne Gibboney, recreation coordinator for the city Parks and Recreation Department. A volunteer training meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. at the Folsom Community Center on Natoma Street. “No prior experience is necessary. Race staff will provide training for all volunteer capacities,” said Gibboney.
