Cooper wins two gold medals; Vista athletes show well at divisional championships

Emily Cooper claimed Division IV track championships in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and will lead Vista del Lago’s track and field athletes at the Masters meet on Thursday and Friday at Hughes Stadium at Sac City College. Cooper pulled off a dual championship, winning the 100 meters in 12.36 and the 200 in 25.72. Riley Martin also earned a first-place finish, winning the 1,600-meter run in 4:28.17, while Meghan Heffelfinger placed first in the discus with a throw of 122 feet. Martin’s teammates, Matt Winkler, ran second to him in the 1,600 in 4:30.35. Madeleine Ankhelyi nearly won the 1,600, instead taking second in 5:06.23. Ankhelyi led teammates Jennifer Morgan, who placed sixth in 5:30.54 and Jennifer Arbaugh, who wound up eighth in 5:35.54. Chelse Skill took third in the 800 meters in 2:24.90, while Martin placed ninth in 2:09.36. Scott Fukui and Maci Skill both placed sixth in events; Fukui in the 110 hurdles (15.57) and Skill in the 400 meters (1:02.05).
