Emily Cooper gave it her best shot to qualify for the state track and field championships, but just missed out becoming Vista del Lago’s first state qualifier. Cooper set a school record by running the 100-meter dash in 12.28 seconds during the finals of the Masters Meet held Friday at Hughes Stadium at Sac City College. She placed fifth in the race, .25 from third and qualifying for the state meet. Cooper also set a new school record in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh in that event in 25.04. “Emily almost pulled it off,” Vista coach Mark Bosse said. “It was a special moment for the team and Vista del Lago. Next year we will be prepared to do even better at this meet and get some athletes qualified for state.” Other athletes competing at the Masters meet for Vista included Narissa Tsuboi, who placed 11th in the 100-meters in 12.53. Khendall Turner finished 12th in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4 feet, 11 inches. Rachel Lahr (triple jump, 34’4, 15th), Lesley Winford (triple jump, 33’ 11.5”, 178th) and Marissa Mendez (3,200, 11:44.66, 18th) also had good performances for the Eagles. The 4x100-meter relay team of Sampson, Tsuboi, Turner and Cooper placed 12th in 49.83, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Tsuboi, Halverson, Winford and Cooper took 17th in 4:11.79.
