City Council Candidate Profile: John Arnaz

John Arnaz is in the running for a seat on the Folsom City Council. Arnaz, 43, is wholesale account executive with Wells Fargo Bank’s home mortgage division. He serves on the Folsom Planning Commission. Arnaz previously served 11 years as a firefighter with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. He has been a member of the city’s Historic District Commission. “I’ve been on the Planning Commission for six years,” Arnaz said. “I’m looking to lead Folsom. For the next four years, the economy is going to be tougher, growth will be slower. We need to maintain our essential services.” Arnaz holds an associate’s degree in fire science from Mission College and completed coursework to obtain a mortgage broker’s license. Important projects have cleared the planning commission during Arnaz’s tenure, both in outer Folsom and in Old Town, he said. “The two largest are the Palladio mall and the parking garage,” Arnaz said. “The garage turned out better than people thought.” Priorities for Folsom include a new fire station, an increase in higher-paying jobs, a plan to prevent traffic jams and a campaign against drug use and drinking among young people, Arnaz said. “I want to be there for the next level, to see projects through that I’ve been involved with,” Arnaz said. “In Folsom, people are generally happy with the way things are, but I’m not running on more of the same. I will bring my own flavor to the council. I want to be accepted, responsive and respectful.”
