City cementing project's look

Sidewalks are forming as concrete is poured on the north side of the 900 block of Sutter Street. Folsom Historic District Association Manager Shannon Cheyne said the street should be open to one lane for vehicle traffic as this work will be moving toward the 800 block. “This will be our first glimpse of what our new sidewalks will look like,” Cheyne said. There are two to three weeks left of construction work on the sewer in the 600 and 700 blocks. During working hours, the block will continue to be closed. After working hours, the street will open back up to one lane of traffic. Cheyne said that Teichert now has one person assigned to evaluate the traffic flow and signage throughout the district. This person will be reviewing every detour and pedestrian signage program throughout the day to assure the signage is accurate, she said. At a recent coffee chat construction meeting at the Folsom City Library, a computerized three-dimensional rendering by the architect showcased what the street will look like with the new facades. Some renovations discussed in the meeting included replaced awnings, a rounded staircase in front of Snook’s Candies to match the look of the building and the corner entrance and umbrella shading structures in front of stores in some areas. ~ Staff report
