A 7-year-old boy died Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in an El Dorado Hills apartment complex. According to Officer Phillip McCain, of the Placerville office of the California Highway Patrol, the young victim ran in front of an oncoming Chevy Trailblazer just after 11 a.m. Wednesday. “An 84-year-old male was driving through the complex on Valley View going about 10 to 15 miles per hour at the most when the 7-year-old came darting out from a walkway area,” McCain said. “He was headed to a park where they were having a kids' event.” The child was struck by the right front of the vehicle and tossed into the air. The driver reportedly continued driving, running over the child with both the front and rear wheels, officials said. Witnesses at the scene reported to officials that the driver was going between 5 and 15 mph. The child was transported to Mercy Folsom where he died as a result of his injuries. “This is your textbook true accident,” McCain said. CHP officials have submitted their report to the District Attorney’s office with a recommendation of charging the driver with vehicular manslaughter. “That is our recommendation,” McCain said. “That is just standard operating procedure.” The driver was not arrested and there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
