Two validated gang members are behind bars for allegedly trying to purchase a vehicle using marijuana.

On Nov. 27, the Western El Dorado County Narcotics Enforcement Team (WENET) received information from a Sheriff’s Department employee who received an offer to trade a vehicle and one quarter pound of marijuana for a vehicle he had listed for sale on Craigslist. Narcotics Investigators initiated contact with the buyer, arranging to meet him on Nov. 28 in a parking lot located at 3935 Park Drive in El Dorado Hills.

Investigators contacted Somyouth Chanthongdao, 27, at his vehicle and after agreeing to the exchange, were allegedly led to a different nearby vehicle and were shown approximately a quarter pound of marijuana in the trunk. Investigators arrested Chanthongdao and the male driver of the second vehicle, Brandi Savatdy, 21, on charges of sales and transportation of marijuana and conspiracy.

According to law enforcement officials, both are validated gang members from the Sacramento area. Chanthongdao is being held in lieu of $1,050,000 bail. Savatdy is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
