PLACERVILLE CA — The Cameron Park man accused of killing his wife made a brief appearance in El Dorado County Superior Court Monday. Todd Winkler, 45, shackled and wearing a jail-issued orange jumpsuit, appeared before Judge Douglas C. Phimister along with his attorney David Weiner. Weiner and Prosecutor Lisette Suder agreed to continue the case until next month for further proceedings. Winkler’s wife, Rachel Winkler, was found dead in her Cameron Park home Feb. 27. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and contends the fatal stabbing of his wife was self-defense after she allegedly attacked him with scissors. The couple’s three children were home at the time of the slaying and in the temporary custody of Rachel’s father, Don Hatfield. Winkler is scheduled to return at 8 a.m. May 21 in Department 7 of El Dorado County Superior Court.
