Folsom High’s varsity boys’ cross country team showed great spacing in their first race of the year Saturday at Woodland’s Run on the Green. In the elite two-mile race, Sammy Scheuer placed fifth, finishing in 10:32, while Mike Kinoshita moved from 15th halfway through the race to place eighth in 10:54. Jon Barrows also finished in ninth place in the elite race in 10:58. In the other varsity race, Vinnie Morin took fifth in 10:47, while Aaron Burkhead ran seventh in 10:51 and Balke Shaw finished eighth in 11:03. Jake Goodwin (12th, 11:10) and David Hanson (14th, 11:24) rounded out the top five. “If you collate the two races our top-five had just a 26-second spread and our top-seven had a 38-second spread,” Folsom coach Dave Gregson said. Vivian Lam placed third in the elite varsity girls' race, finishing in 12:29. In the varsity race, Lisa Hoang took 22nd in 16:33, followed by Justine Angello (34th, 18:29) and Ann Ruppert (38th, 18:58). In the freshman-sophomore girls race, Muna Alhamed placed second in 13:29 and Katie Bock was fifth in 13:58. Ashley Anderson (12th, 15:54), Jenn Rees (15th, 16:57) and Kaeti Park (17th, 17:30) followed. For the boys, Tim Scott placed 12th in 12:39, followed by Weston Dewitt (19th, 13:15), Peter Merrill (21st, 13:20), Jordan Denny (25th, 13:53), Jim Broff (38th, 15:10) and Matt Merrill (41st, 15:53).
