Folsom High's varsity boys basketball team will play for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship on Saturday. The fifth-seeded Bulldogs defeated Edison, 81-71 on Thursday at Arco Arena, and advance to Saturday's championship game at 8:30 p.m. against Rodriguez (26-5). The 11th-seeded Mustangs advanced to the championship game by beating Sheldon in overtime, 57-54. The win over Edison (21-9) avenged Folsom's loss to Vikings during last year's section semifinals. Folsom (23-7) led most of the game, but after a high-scoring first quarter the game was tied at 21. By halftime Folsom led 38-35 with Ben Palmer leading the team with 17 points. The third quarter was close throughout, but Patrick Akins' 3-pointer at the buzzer lifted the Bulldogs to a 56-52 advantage. The Bulldogs took control of the game in the early portions of the fourth quarter, embarking on a 12-5 run to go up by 11, 68-57, with 4:50 to play. Folsom hung on from there to earn the big win. Palmer ended the game with 26 points, while Tony Johnson scored 16 and Kori Babineaux finished with 12. Trumaine Johnson led Edison with 31 points, while Willy Williams scored 26.
