FOLSOM, CA - Ken Karnack wants to help people.

As a certified personal trainer with 16 years in the business, Karnack has gotten to know and has helped hundreds of people.

Looking to expand his business, Karnack and his fiancée, Tania Hicks, are opening their own gym, Anytime Fitness, in mid-November and they’re excited to have the opportunity to help more people reach their goals.

“Compared to the big box gyms, we’re a smaller facility, but we’re going to give personal attention to our clients,” Karnack said. “We’re community based and will have a hometown feel. The best way I can describe our philosophy is that we’re going to be like ‘Cheers.’ When people walk in to our gym they’re going to feel appreciated. We’re going to have personal interaction with them.”

The gym, located at 1007 E. Bidwell St. next to CVS, is 3,200 square feet and will feature a full line of life fitness cardio and strength training equipment and hammer strength equipment. There will be private showers, a changing room and posing mirror, as well as an “inspiration wall” by the entrance that everyone will see.

“It’s a place where members can right down their experiences, accomplishments and goals,” Karnack said. “I think people are going to like it.”

The gym is for adults only, 18 years old and older. Karnack specializes in weight loss and body building and he expects a wide range of clients. So far he’s had several members sign-up during pre-sale, which he’s offering at a reduced rate of $35 per month. The rate applies until the gym opens.
Folsom resident Eric Milam is one of the many clients to join the gym before it opened. He was driving down E. Bidwell one day and saw one of Karnack’s signs and gave him a call.

“I spoke with him and he sounded like a decent person with a nice personality so my girlfriend and I signed up,” Milam said. “A couple days later he called me up and asked me if I wanted work out. I had never heard of an owner of a gym asking a client if they wanted to work out. We meet once a week now just to work out. I’m looking to lose weight and in just four weeks I’ve lost 16 pounds. I’ve seen good results and I’m going to keep doing it because I want to lose about 30 more pounds.”

Milam said he doesn’t particularly care for the big gyms, which are impersonal and often times too crowded.

“Ken’s got a smaller gym and he seems to know each person by first name and I like that,” Milam said. “I think my girlfriend will feel more comfortable in a smaller gym too.”
