Vista del Lago’s varsity girls’ cross country team qualified for Friday’s Sac-Joaquin Section championships at Willow Hills in Folsom. The girls placed third at the sub-section meet held Saturday at Angels Camp, trailing Del Oro and Oakmont, which qualified them for sections. Madeleine Ankhelyi and Sierra Jaeger posted top-five finishes for the Eagles, as Ankhelyi finished second in 18 minutes, 46 seconds, while Jaeger ran fifth in 19:31. Jennifer Morgan finished 13th in 20:16, followed by Alegra Mendez (22nd, 20:38), Chelsea Shill (41st, 21:34) and Dali Alarian (78th, 22:57). While the varsity girls’ team was the only team from Vista to qualify for sections, the Eagles also had nine other individual qualifiers. Zach Jaeger qualified for the varsity boys by placing 15th in 16:49, while Elizabeth Anderson placed ninth in 22:50 to qualify for the junior varsity girls. Aaron Schiek and Christian Guevara qualified for the sophomore boys, placing 18th in 12:40 and 32nd in 13:03, respectively. For the freshman-sophomore girls, Michaela Reynolds (4th, 14:11), Weirui Xiao (5th, 14:13), Megan Howell (9th, 14:36) and Lucie Chevreuil (19th, 14:43) also qualified, as did Kyle Chun for the freshman boys, who finished second in his race in 12:06.
