Ankhelyi, Carroll lead Eagles at Granite Park

Vista del Lago had the top-two finishers in the varsity girls’ race at Saturday’s Hornet Jamboree, but Davis High proved to have more depth, as the Blue Devils finished 26 points ahead of the Eagles to win the meet. Madeleine Ankhelyi and Clare Carroll finished first and second in the 5-kilometer race, Ankhelyi easily winning with a time of 17 minutes 26 seconds. Carroll finished 27 seconds behind in 17:53. The top-two finish was impressive, but Davis put five runners in the top-12 to take the event. Jennifer Morgan was Vista’s third runner to cross the line, taking 17th in 20:20. Michaela Reynolds placed 20th in 20:54, while Megan Howell rounded out the scorers with a 24th-place finish in 20:57. Nicole Cooper (84th, 23:46) and Liz Anderson (88th, 24:02) rounded out Vista’s runners. Vista’s varsity boys’ placed ninth as a team with Zach Jaeger being the first Eagle to cross the line in 16:04 and in tenth place. Kyle Chun ran 28th in 16:46 with Andrew Schiek placing 64th in 17:31. Sam Ruby came 15 seconds later in 80th place, while Aaron Schiek rounded out the scorers by placing 98th in 18:17. Jeff Reinking (104th, 18:27) and Nathan Lemay (105th, 18:29) also ran for the varsity squad. Vista’s freshman-sophomore girls had a strong showing, taking fifth as a team, while the boys ran 16th. Alayna Gocke earned a top-10 finish for the girls, as she ran eighth, finishing the two-mile race in 14:27. Weirui Xiao finished 10 seconds later in 13th place, while Hanah Montague finished 20 seconds behind Gocke in 18th place. Sarah Downs placed 46th in 16:13, followed by Alex Vareljian (80th, 17:37), Lexie Zimny (92nd, 18:09) and Davrina Chidambaram (93rd, 18:11). Ryan Von Chance was the top finisher for the freshman-sophomore boys, as he took 37th in 13:07. Vincent Chevreuil finished his race in 14:09 and in 84th place. Cooper Rode came in 11 seconds later in 90th place, followed by Niko Guevara (14:29) in 95th place. Maclean Ankhelyi placed 100th in 14:34 with teammates Ryan Anderson (101st, 14:35) and Daniel Baquero (118th, 14:59) rounding out the team.
