Vista football hopes to rebound against El Camino

After a 1-3 preseason record, Vista del Lago’s varsity football team opens Capital Athletic League play Friday at El Camino High School in a battle between the Eagles.

Both teams enter the game with identical 1-3 records. El Camino has lost two straight and is coming off a 41-21 loss to Center. After winning its opening game of the season against Cordova, Vista has dropped three straight games, including a 70-27 game to Placer last Friday.

If nothing else, Vista has history on its side. In four league meetings against El Camino, Vista has never lost to the Eagles. In fact, none of the games have been closer than 25 points. Last year, Vista cruised to a 50-13 win over El Camino.

The teams met in the playoffs in 2012, and Vista won a thriller, 35-31.

Vista hopes to keep its perfect 5-0 record alive against the Eagles on Friday night.
