Folsom tennis posts solid 7-2 win over Cordova

Folsom High’s tennis team prepared for the Sierra Foothill League portion of their schedule with a non-league match with Cordova Thursday and came away 7-2 winners.

The only matches Folsom lost were matches it forfeited, as the team won the seven matches in which they competed.

The Bulldogs easily swept through singles play, winning all six matches; three by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Ava Brown, Annamaria Crone and Faith Cyphert all blanked their opponents. Lucia Pulgar, an exchange student from Spain, won her first singles match in America at No. 6 singles, defeating Antoinette Aho, 6-1, 6-2.

Also winning in singles play were Soulana Glass (6-1, 6-0) and Ashley Booth (6-2, 6-3).

The only match contested in doubles went Folsom’s way too, as Varsha Pondicherry and newcomer Nitalie Biswal earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Folsom opens SFL play at Rocklin Tuesday before hosting Vista del Lago in a non-league match on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
