After 10 years in the city, Wasabi Asian bistro and Sushi Bar has closed its doors.
Located at 2371 Iron Point Road in Folsom, the once popular sushi bar sits dark with a sign on the door, thanking its longtime customers and explaining that it was a hard decision to turn out the lights.
Wasabi was one of Folsom’s first sushi restaurants, opening it’s doors 10 years ago just after the Iron Point shopping center was built, where they filled a 3,125-square-foot location, according to information from Gallelli Real Estate, management group for the Folsom Gateway II Center.
The restaurant was founded by Peter Tham, a renowned chef and sushi chef in the region who worked for many of the top rated sushi restaurants before breaking away on his own.
After opening three different locations, Wasabi was known as one of the region’s premier Asian restaurants. The company thrived on serving its “regulars” in an atmosphere that was often promoted as one of the best kept secrets.
According to the posted announcement at the Folsom location and on the company’s website, Wasabi will continue to operate its locations in Citrus Heights and Roseville. At this time it is unknown what may occupy the vacancy.
