The Oak Ridge varsity football team posted 10-3 records the last two seasons and the potential for even more success this season is there.

The Oak Ridge football program, the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams, as well as the Jr. Trojans youth football program, will be celebrated at the annual Meet the Trojans event held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Town Center in El Dorado Hills.

The Trojans’ varsity team has big goals this season, as a Sierra Foothill League title as well as a Sac-Joaquin Section title are well within reach if the team stays healthy. After reaching the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals the last two seasons, the Trojans are anxious to take the next step and reach the championship game.

“Meet the Trojans is a cool event for sure,” Oak Ridge senior quarterback Marco Baldacchino said. “It’s a chance for people to come out and support Oak Ridge football, not just the varsity team but all the levels and all the teams, including the youth football teams. It gives them a chance to see who’s going to be playing in front of them on Friday nights.”

As the varsity team leads the football program, the junior varsity and freshman teams are also looking forward to their seasons, as are the youth football Jr. Trojans. All the teams will be introduced at the Meet the Trojans event.

Oak Ridge cheerleaders and the dance team will also perform. The Oak Ridge football Hall of Fame will be on display and there will be an opportunity to get varsity player autographs. The annual hot dog eating contest is always a hit, and there will also be additional vendors at the event.

“We hope to create a little excitement through the community by introducing the teams,” Oak Ridge varsity football coach Eric Cavaliere said. “Hopefully, they’ll want to be apart of what we’re doing on Friday nights.

“I’m really excited for the season. We’ve got a talented group. Our coaching staff has remained consistent, which is important. It’s just a matter of putting the pieces together and doing everything we can to prepare for Vista.”

The Eagles open the season at home against Vista del Lago. The freshman game is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, while the junior varsity game is Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. with the varsity game following at 7:30 p.m.

“I’m looking forward to the season,” Baldacchino said. “It’s the most excited I’ve ever been.”
