Cody Spencer continues to have his career-best season behind the wheel of a sprint car. Last Saturday night, the Orangevale resident drove to victory for the fifth time this year at the Marysville Raceway Park quarter-mile dirt track.

“After having a tough week at Placerville last week it’s nice to get back to victory lane,” said Spencer. “It’s been a good year so far with five wins. If anyone would have asked me last year if I thought we could win a race. I would have told them they were crazy.”

Driving the Mark Dolner Motorsports wingless sprint car, Spencer started on the outside of the front row in Saturday’s feature event in Marysville. At the waving of the green flag he quickly drove into the initial lead. After falling back to second and swapping the lead nearly a half a dozen times in the early circuits, Spencer eventually pulled away into a lead he maintained all the way to the checkered flag.

Celebrating his fifth win in victory lane, Spencer credited his car owner and several local sponsors as a key element to his success this season. Prior to 2017 he had never won a race in a full sized sprint car.

“I couldn’t be more proud to represent all of the people that back this racing team,” said Spencer. “Companies like MotoWear International, Nor Cal Gun Vault, Central Valley Towing and ART Speed Equipment. Every one of them is part of our success and I am so thankful for the opportunity Mark Dolner has given me to drive for this team.”

Following his most recent victory, Spencer leads the championship point standings at Marysville Raceway by a 51-point advantage over Brett Youngman.
