Kick It Clinic to be held Friday at Livermore ParkBy: Matt Long of the Telegraph
Hundreds of Folsom youth have learned fundamental soccer skills through the annual Kick It Clinic over the last seven years. The eighth clinic will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Livermore Park in Folsom.
The clinic is for kids ages 5-9 and costs $35. Teenaged soccer players will lead the participants through 10 skill stations, teaching the kids in a fun and friendly atmosphere, as most of the teaching is learned through various soccer games.
“The kids learn the basic fundamental soccer skills and have fun while doing it,” said Robyn Cunningham, who’s organizing the clinic. “We’ve also got a live DJ; offer a barbecue meal, a snow cone machine, silent auction and a raffle giveaway for the kids.”
All the proceeds from the camp will be put into a college scholarship fund in honor of Maria Totushek, who started the clinic in 2008 and organized it over the years until passing away in April.
“Maria, herself a cancer survivor before being re-diagnosed, felt God put it on her heart to help other people,” said Cunningham, as annually the clinic has raised money for people fighting cancer. “Every year the clinic grew and she never wanted any of the glory, as it wasn’t about her. Now her family has started this scholarship program in her name.”
Registration for the clinic can be done online at kickitclinic.org or on the day of the event starting at 4:45 p.m. at Livermore Park.
