Cal Poly senior and 2014 Vista Del Lago High School graduate Hannah Avdalovic was awarded first place for Best Marketing and Public Relations Manager from College Media Business and Advertising Managers (CMBAM) during its annual convention.

The award recognizes the student manager most responsible for promoting the media organization to outside communities, managing relationships with external publics and/or creating promotional and sales materials, according to CMBAM, an organization with more than 125-member schools nationwide.

Avdalovic, a journalism major with a public relations concentration, works as the marketing and PR manager for Cal Poly Journalism’s student-run media, Mustang Media Group, and has been involved in marketing the organization for the past three years, first as a community outreach coordinator.

Avdalovic has been recognized with other awards throughout her time in the organization, including earning first place for Best Audience Engagement Strategy and second place for Best Social Media Campaign, also from CMBAM.

“It is such an honor to get recognized on a national platform after years of work with Mustang Media Group,” she said. “Although this award is humbling, the true reward is helping manage a media group that gives students a voice and informs our community. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with so many talented individuals because of this experience, and for that I am eternally grateful.”

In addition to working in student media, Avdalovic has completed three internships and held nearly 10 job titles in marketing and outreach during her undergraduate experience. She has worked as a digital intern for the Sacramento Kings and Golden 1 Center.

At Cal Poly, Avdalovic handles marketing as the outreach student assistant at Associated Students, Inc. and is the editor-in-chief of online publication Her Campus Cal Poly.

MMG General Manager Paul Bittick said that Avdalovic’s legacy will live on through MMG marketing and public relations programming.

“This was the first year for Central Coast PRspectives to be a full partner with Mustang Media Group and Hannah was the perfect person lead the effort,” he said. “Her experience in social media combined with Mustang Media Group knowledge made for an incredible transition. She has certainly built a strong foundation for the marketing/public relations program with Mustang Media Group.”

CMBAM serves to foster leadership development and strive for the highest standards in industry knowledge. Since its inception, the CMBAM annual convention has welcomed and aimed to assist students and advisers involved in the business and advertising operations of student newspapers.
